Grooming book recommendation!

Hey guys!! I just finished this book on dog grooming and thought I will share it with my readers! Really a good read for dog owners :D

DIY Dog Grooming, From Puppy Cuts to Best in Show: Everything You Need to Know, Step by StepDIY Dog Grooming, From Puppy Cuts to Best in Show: Everything You Need to Know, Step by Step by Jorge Bendersky
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not sure why there are so many low ratings for this book on goodreads, but it definitely deserves 5 stars!
This book is extremely informative and has lots of tips on things that can help make the grooming process more efficient and stress-free. Of course you can always Google advice on grooming, but it is really convenient when everything is compiled nicely in one book.
I really recommend this to everyone who has a dog! It is good to know at least the basics of keeping your dog in good shape and what to do when you encounter a mishap, or prevent one from happening. (grooming mistakes, things that can happen on a walk...etc)

Wish that I read this book before getting a dog, (2 years ago) it would have helped out so much more.

Trying out some Solid Gold products!

Thank you to Solid Gold and Furflr for choosing us to review!!

We received 3 kibble samples, 1 creamy bisque pouch, 1 savory mousse cup and 1 evening tide can.

(Click on the image to enlarge)

Packaging- Very striking. At the pet expo in 2015, my friend and I actually did a double take. Definitely made a good first impression.

The pouch, cup and can are good for bringing on travels too, compact and looks nice.

Made in?- The first downside to this, is that only the kibbles are made in USA, the rest of their products (can, pouch, cup) are made in Thailand.

I usually don't trust products made in certain Asian countries.

The food- Luna ate everything but the Creamy Bisque with crab and coconut milk (pouch).

Smell-wise, the products smells like the meat mentioned on the packaging, not overpowering though! The creamy bisque had the strongest smell, maybe that's why Luna didn't like it?

Ingredients- Although they don't mention the percentage of specific meats, the ingredients list seems pretty good. The first 2 ingredients of the samples we tried were usually meats.

I also liked that they wrote 'no by-products' on one of their product's packaging.

Cost- Average pricing. Considering the ingredients and the country of manufacture, it is slightly pricey.

Choices- Solid Gold has a variety of options for cats of different ages and even cater for problems like weight control.

Overall- I would give them 3.5 - 4 out of 5 stars

Going to the beach for Skye's 3rd birthday!

Skye turned 3 on the 21st of June, so I decided to bring both of them to Sentosa's Tanjong beach to play and swim!!

As part of Furflr's review program, we were given the opportunity to review "PetMate", a pet taxi company. So I booked them for this outing! (We still had to pay for the fare) I placed the booking 2 days before hand, as per their instructions. The name of the driver was given within a few hours, really quick response. Whenever I had questions, I always got fast replies from their Facebook page! On the day of the outing, the driver was really punctual and arrived a few minutes before pick up time. (During both trips, to and back) He was really friendly too!

I really recommend this (PetMate) app to people who have larger pets as it can be hard to find a taxi willing to ferry larger sized pets. However, for smaller pets, it may be more worth it to just get a normal taxi as PetMate is slightly pricey. Do take note that for the first 10km, the price is fixed at $27. Maximum number of passengers is 2. If you have more people, you need to indicate the number of pax in the 'notes' section while booking.

As we were heading to Sentosa, I made sure to check with PetMate to see if there will be additional fees going into Sentosa. They told me that there were no additional charges, it was all included. However when we reached the entrance into the island, we were told by the person there that there was a $6 fee to be paid by the passenger.

After the outing when I reached home, I sent a photo of the receipt to PetMate and they were immediately apologetic about the misunderstanding with the gantry staff and said that they will give a refund! Really pleased with PetMate's quick responses! If you do go into Sentosa, take note that there is an additional fee due to the recent policy change!
For more reviews of PetMate, head over to Furflr's website- https://www.furflr.com/listing/petmate/

(The ground was hot, so I had to carry both of them for the photo)

On to the video of the outing! The beach was not crowded when we went. (Around 3.30pm to 4.40pm) Glad that that was the case, because both of them do not like crowds.

We had lots of fun at the beach, will definitely want to bring both of them there again! Good to have a change of scenery every once in a while!

Luna's New Bag!!!

Bought a new bag from Qoo10 for Luna, it arrived pretty quick!

Material of the blue part seems a bit thin and flimsy for my liking, but it can support Luna's weight.

Sniffing it out for the first time~

Kiss~~

Pretty cosy :)

Only can see her eyes hahahahaha

Outing at the Dog Run!!

We brought Skye to the dog run recently, saw so many big friendly doggies there!

West Coast dog run is my favourite dog run in Singapore. It is huge and has water taps at the entrance! So convenient :D

Pets' Day Out Event!

Tanglin Neighbourhood Committee recently organised a "Pets' Day Out" event held at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
They gave out small goodie bags and had booths at the venue for both humans and doggies. Humans got to enjoy coconut juice and icecream while the doggies had pies, treats and sausages to choose from :D

Skye had a fun time barking at other doggies and people!
We really enjoyed it and we can't wait for the next one!

The audio might sound muffled as the waterproof cover was on my Gopro. (I used a Gopro Hero+ and a Nikon D5200)

Trying out Stewart's Freeze Dried Turkey Liver Treats

Furflr.com recently chose us to test out Stewart's Freeze Dried Turkey Liver Treats as part of their new project to get honest reviews by pet parents, for pet parents! All opinions are 100% honest!

First impressions, love the packaging!! Looks really presentable.
The treats are in lightweight small bite size pieces too, good for small dogs/cats to enjoy!
Was impressed that this treat contains only ONE ingredient! (Turkey Liver)
With regards to the smell of the treats, it has a slight woody/herbal scent to me. My sister feels that it smells like cardboard.
Careful when the treat is wet (with saliva), it becomes very sticky and the stickiness can't be fully washed off even with soap.

Price-wise, it is affordable since there are about 50 pieces per tub.

Now for the tasting.

Skye gives it 10/10! She gobbled it up really quickly.
Luna gives it 1/10, she only licked and then ignored it.

I won't consider buying this since only one of them enjoys the treats but I definitely recommend this to other pawrents as it is hard to find treats that are healthy and natural.

Trying out Primal Freeze Dried Formula ( Cat and Dog food)

Furflr.com recently reached out to us to test out Primal's Freeze Dried Nuggets as part of their new project to get honest reviews by pet parents, for pet parents! All opinions are 100% honest!

Really excited when Furflr chose us to be one of the reviewers!
I gave both Skye and Luna one nugget first, just to see if they like it.
Skye LOVES it. As seen in the video, she finished her nugget within a minute!
Luna took a little longer, as she is not used to food with a 'mushy' consistency.

The nuggets have NO smell, which is awesome!! Some pet food I have bought before had a really strong and unpleasant smell which I don't really prefer. (Of course Skye and Luna would not mind that! )
Preparation is really easy too! Just soak in water and wait for it to soften before mashing it up to make it easier for your pet to eat. The nuggets are really light too, which makes it easy to bring out on outings!

Im really impressed with the ingredients in this. It is hard to find good quality pet food these days. Primal is made in USA, first few ingredients are all meat! No by-products or meals.

I would suggest checking this page out too, for a more detailed breakdown of the ingredients!
http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/primal-freeze-dried-formula/

Although the quality of this product is one of the best out there, it is still too expensive for us (compared to the brand we are currently using) to get unless there is a huge discount.

Definitely recommend this to all pawrents to let their furkids try!

Nutripe Treats Review

These treats are from the Nekojam giveaway we recently won! Finally tried both treats!

The first one, Lamb chewy, is really good for dogs who want to chew on something for a long time. Skye is still on her first one, Luna doesnt like it.
The other one, veal ribby, can be for both cats and dogs to enjoy for a shorter amount of time. Skye finished hers within 30 mins!

Maltese gathering at Sembawang park

Went for a Maltese gathering on 16 April 2016! Unfortunately when we reached Sembawang park, it was drizzling, so we had to wait for the rain to stop.

Here are some photos and a video of that day!

The Sembawang dog run is supposed to be the largest in Singapore, however, it seems to me that its 1/3 or even a quarter of the dog run in West Coast. Very disappointing.

Our whole group!

There are NO water taps in the dog run, but the washrooms are about 2 minutes walk away with taps outside the washroom for you to wash your feet or your dog. Relatively hard to get to as this park is next to the ocean (all the way north), quite ulu. However, the rest of the park is really gorgeous, wide open field, playground, bbq pits.

I will probably not bring Skye here again as its not worth it. Spent over $50 just on taxi fare (both ways) and the dog run is tiny. Might consider coming here to take photos though!

Husse Pet Food

I recently purchased Husse dry cat and dog food to try out.
At their pet expo booth, I didn't check their ingredients list thoroughly. Realised that several ingredients listed are not favourable at all. Mainly "animal fat", as the animal is not named. Which means that it may include zoo animals, road kill or euthanized pets. I will probably not buy from this brand again, unless they change their ingredients.

*UPDATE* Seems like the "animal fat" they use are 'lard' or 'tallow'. You can check out http://www.husse.sg/faq for more information on that!

Check out http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/husse-dog-food/ for a more detailed breakdown of the ingredients.

Cutting their nails

Like some pet owners, I have a hard time whenever it is time to cut their nails. We did not introduce them slowly to nail clippers when they were younger. Its always good for first time owners to research online before attempting to do something. I use nail clippers made for dogs, for Skye and nail clippers made for humans, for Luna.

For Luna, I try to cut her nails when she is sleeping. (on my table when Im using my laptop) This is the only time she will not put up a fuss. However, I can only cut one nail at a time using this method as she always wakes up after one clip. If not, I have to get my sister to hold her while I cut Luna's nails. Usually involves lots of struggling, and loose fur all over my arms when I'm done. Front paw nails are also a lot harder to cut since she struggles more when the clippers are closer to her face.

For Skye, it is impossible to get her while she is asleep as she wakes up at the slightest noise. In her case, either my mom or dad will hold her while someone else clips Skye's nails. Lots of squirming too.

I actually tried using an electric nail grinder before, but the sound was so loud and uncomfortable for Skye. She did not allow me to put that anywhere near her paws. (I think the brand was PediPaws)

Check out these websites for more information!

Lastly, NEVER EVER declaw an animal!

Plenty of discounts too! Especially at the last hour on the last day :D

New app: Pet Widget

I just downloaded this new app "Pet Widget", its an all-in-one app for pet owners. Super easy to use and its available for both Android and IOS!

Home page

My profile :)
You can add your pets to your profile!

In your pet's individual profile, you can add more information about them such as vaccinations, medical/physical exams, allergies, weight and even contacts to be used in an emergency.

You are able to add friends through your phone contacts and by linking your facebook. The app doesn't allow you to click on another user to see their profile/add them though.

Page 1- categories in 'listings'
Page 2

There are many categories of listings to explore and rate/review. Very useful for pet owners who want to learn more about a place before going. This app is still new in Singapore, so go join and contribute :D

These are some categories in the Pet Talk section of the app. Its like a forum to get help, learn, interact with other owners!

For those who want to be safe, there is an option in the settings to lock location.
