Luna's 3rd Birthday/Adoptionversary!!

Firstly, HAPPY 2018 to all our readers!! Hope you guys had a great new year's day &/or Chinese New Year celebration!

Luna turned 3 on 17 Feb. I have been wanting to try out something I saw on Junskitchen, and what better time to do it than on her birthday?

Decided to simplify the recipe since I'm an amateur :P Used chicken thigh and salmon.

*as Jun mentioned, before making home-cooked food for your pet, do RESEARCH!*

1. Wash the meat
2. Cook the meat (I decided to boil the chicken and steam the salmon. Also cut a small slice of salmon and fried it, for decoration at the end)
3. Chop it up into tiny pieces

(LEFT) Chicken | (RIGHT) Salmon

4. Stuff the meat into the mold and make sure to pack it in tightly so it will hold the shape better (I filled the bottom half with salmon, top half with chicken)

5. Slowly remove the mold from the meat
6. Add the toppings (in my case, the salmon piece I previously fried and the "3" topper)

7. SERVE!

Homemade Dehydrated Treats

Made some homemade dehydrated treats for Skye and Luna!

Since Omni Frozen Food had a August promotion, I decided to purchase the meat from them instead of the supplier I used last year. (S.S.Kim) Response and delivery were prompt, will definitely consider purchasing from them again next time!

Luna seems to really like chicken necks, that was partially why I wanted to order from Omni.

* If you dehydrate raw, please make sure your dehydrator can heat up enough to kill the bacteria in the meat. *

Meat I ordered (as stated on their site) :

Green Lipped Half Shell Mussel x 1 packet
Fresh Duck Neck x 1KG
Beef Tendon x 2KG
Beef Liver x 300g (free because of promotion)
Pig Kidney x 300g (free because of promotion)
Fresh Chicken Neck x 3KG
Chicken Fillet x 4KG
HGP Free Chicken Breast Boneless Skinless x 2KG
Pork Fillet/Tenderloin x 2KG
Chicken Leg Boneless Skinless x 4KG

Mussels

Duck Neck + Beef Tendon

Beef Liver + Pig Kidney

Chicken Neck

Chicken Fillet

Pork Fillet

Chicken Leg

My dehydrator actually stopped working when I was dehydrating the tendons, ended up putting half in the oven to bake because I didn't want the meat to spoil. (I had not much space left in the fridge)

Thank God my dad and I managed to get the dehydrator working again. (the inner fan was not oiled)

Not sure why they gave me two different brands of chicken legs...

Also, I didn't realise that this part of the chicken would have so much fats :P Take note if you don't want to spend an hour trimming them off.

This is the final product!! I always store them in the freezer so they last long.

Final Products

This is what each looks like after dehydrating.
I did add apple cider vinegar to the chicken fillets, chicken legs and pork fillet. Just a cap full in a bowl of water to dilute it. (Please make sure your furkid has no reactions to ACV if you are adding it to their treats)

Steps (I take) for making treats:
- Cut the meat into bite-sized pieces (or however big you want it to be)
- Dip the slices into a bowl of diluted apple cider vinegar
- Arrange the slices onto the dehydrator tray
- Dehydrate for a few hours (depends on the meat and your machine settings)
- Store in an airtight bag (include a silica gel packet or store in the fridge/freezer if necessary)

Skye's 4th birthday!

Skye turned 4 on 21st June 2017!!!
We decided to go out as a family to two places for brunch+lunch - Wildseed Cafe and Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe.
Wildseed Cafe is located at 3 Park Lane in Seletar.

We actually arrived before their lunch menu was available (to order), so we decided to order some cakes instead. For $8, you can pick 4 of their 'petit cakes'. A reasonable price since the cakes were very delicious and were also flavour combinations I have not tried before.

The tea here was expensive though. 1 pot of tea was $8. EIGHT DOLLARS. We actually ordered 2 pots :P Earl Grey and something else. Nothing special and a little diluted.

Assorted cakes from Wildseed Cafe

Garden behind Wildseed Cafe

After eating, we walked around the small garden they had behind the cafe. We had to carry Skye as the ground was too hot, Luna was in the stroller :)

After Wildseed Cafe, we headed over to Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe.
It is located at 10 Neo Tiew Lane, D'Kranji Farm Resort, not easy to get to if you don't drive in.

We arrived just as the owners of the cafe were setting everything up, so we had to walk around the area to pass the time. (just 10 minutes :P )

The cafe is quite cosy with some indoor seatings and a larger outdoor area with more seatings available.

At Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe

The cafe provides drinking water, pee pads and toys for their fur-customers, plus a mop if any accidents happen! Though I wouldn't recommend playing with the toys, not sure how hygienic that will be...

Water, pee pads and cutlery area
toys and sink area

Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe also has a pool area for furkids who want to cool off in the heat! The cafe's resident dog (puppy) kept jumping into the water :D There is also a shower and drying area next to the pool.

Temporary pool area at Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe

The outdoor area is much bigger than the cafe's interior, but it might get too hot especially if you come here for lunch. There are 'patio umbrellas' at the tables, but I'm not sure if that will help. The ground will also get scalding hot at noon, so make sure you check the temperature before letting your furkids run around!

Luna in the stroller

They have a variety of meals to choose from, including food for fur kids!! The prices are very affordable, compared to other pet-friendly cafes which charge $10-$25 for one meal. The meals came around 10-15 minutes after ordering but that was not an issue as we were busy playing at the outdoor area with Skye.

Menu at Ulu Ulu Pet Cafe

Chicken and Beef for the furkids
Lasagne for the hooman

I ordered one portion of chicken and beef for Skye and Luna to share. (some of the chicken has been removed, that's why it looks much lesser compared to the beef)

For us humans, we got lasagne (x2), baked salmon, eggs benedict and some cold drinks.

The meals were a bit small for the price, but still decent. The eggs in the eggs benedict were still runny on the inside and the salmon was well cooked.

The lasagne I had was yummy and not too salty. However, it tasted like those frozen ones you would get at a supermarket. Hopefully that was not the case :o

Skye with her birthday lunch! I actually made that number "4" 'cake topper' out of the new sake Kitkat's cardboard packaging :P Worked out well!

Her birthday meal!

After our lunch, we decided to head over to the nearby Kranji Reservoir to walk around. Unfortunately for us, it started drizzling so we had to cut it short.

Hopefully Skye and Luna enjoyed the outing as much as we humans did!
I actually couldn't find Luna's harness so I could not let her out of the stroller in case my makeshift 'harness' (another collar around her waist) slips off :O Definitely have to buy a new one because it seems to have disappeared... :(

Trying out some Solid Gold products!

Thank you to Solid Gold and Furflr for choosing us to review!!

We received 3 kibble samples, 1 creamy bisque pouch, 1 savory mousse cup and 1 evening tide can.

(Click on the image to enlarge)

Packaging- Very striking. At the pet expo in 2015, my friend and I actually did a double take. Definitely made a good first impression.

The pouch, cup and can are good for bringing on travels too, compact and looks nice.

Made in?- The first downside to this, is that only the kibbles are made in USA, the rest of their products (can, pouch, cup) are made in Thailand.

I usually don't trust products made in certain Asian countries.

The food- Luna ate everything but the Creamy Bisque with crab and coconut milk (pouch).

Smell-wise, the products smells like the meat mentioned on the packaging, not overpowering though! The creamy bisque had the strongest smell, maybe that's why Luna didn't like it?

Ingredients- Although they don't mention the percentage of specific meats, the ingredients list seems pretty good. The first 2 ingredients of the samples we tried were usually meats.

I also liked that they wrote 'no by-products' on one of their product's packaging.

Cost- Average pricing. Considering the ingredients and the country of manufacture, it is slightly pricey.

Choices- Solid Gold has a variety of options for cats of different ages and even cater for problems like weight control.

Overall- I would give them 3.5 - 4 out of 5 stars

Trying out Stewart's Freeze Dried Turkey Liver Treats

Furflr.com recently chose us to test out Stewart's Freeze Dried Turkey Liver Treats as part of their new project to get honest reviews by pet parents, for pet parents! All opinions are 100% honest!

First impressions, love the packaging!! Looks really presentable.
The treats are in lightweight small bite size pieces too, good for small dogs/cats to enjoy!
Was impressed that this treat contains only ONE ingredient! (Turkey Liver)
With regards to the smell of the treats, it has a slight woody/herbal scent to me. My sister feels that it smells like cardboard.
Careful when the treat is wet (with saliva), it becomes very sticky and the stickiness can't be fully washed off even with soap.

Price-wise, it is affordable since there are about 50 pieces per tub.

Now for the tasting.

Skye gives it 10/10! She gobbled it up really quickly.
Luna gives it 1/10, she only licked and then ignored it.

I won't consider buying this since only one of them enjoys the treats but I definitely recommend this to other pawrents as it is hard to find treats that are healthy and natural.

Trying out Primal Freeze Dried Formula ( Cat and Dog food)

Furflr.com recently reached out to us to test out Primal's Freeze Dried Nuggets as part of their new project to get honest reviews by pet parents, for pet parents! All opinions are 100% honest!

Really excited when Furflr chose us to be one of the reviewers!
I gave both Skye and Luna one nugget first, just to see if they like it.
Skye LOVES it. As seen in the video, she finished her nugget within a minute!
Luna took a little longer, as she is not used to food with a 'mushy' consistency.

The nuggets have NO smell, which is awesome!! Some pet food I have bought before had a really strong and unpleasant smell which I don't really prefer. (Of course Skye and Luna would not mind that! )
Preparation is really easy too! Just soak in water and wait for it to soften before mashing it up to make it easier for your pet to eat. The nuggets are really light too, which makes it easy to bring out on outings!

Im really impressed with the ingredients in this. It is hard to find good quality pet food these days. Primal is made in USA, first few ingredients are all meat! No by-products or meals.

I would suggest checking this page out too, for a more detailed breakdown of the ingredients!
http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/primal-freeze-dried-formula/

Although the quality of this product is one of the best out there, it is still too expensive for us (compared to the brand we are currently using) to get unless there is a huge discount.

Definitely recommend this to all pawrents to let their furkids try!

Nutripe Treats Review

These treats are from the Nekojam giveaway we recently won! Finally tried both treats!

The first one, Lamb chewy, is really good for dogs who want to chew on something for a long time. Skye is still on her first one, Luna doesnt like it.
The other one, veal ribby, can be for both cats and dogs to enjoy for a shorter amount of time. Skye finished hers within 30 mins!

Husse Pet Food

I recently purchased Husse dry cat and dog food to try out.
At their pet expo booth, I didn't check their ingredients list thoroughly. Realised that several ingredients listed are not favourable at all. Mainly "animal fat", as the animal is not named. Which means that it may include zoo animals, road kill or euthanized pets. I will probably not buy from this brand again, unless they change their ingredients.

*UPDATE* Seems like the "animal fat" they use are 'lard' or 'tallow'. You can check out http://www.husse.sg/faq for more information on that!

Singapore Pet Expo 2016

My family went for the Singapore Pet Expo 2016 on 25th and 27th March 2016.
This was my second time going for pet expo, so I knew roughly what to expect!

Pet expo is on its 3rd year! Admission tickets were $4 per day, $10 for a 3-day pass. (for this year)
There are lots of things going on during Pet expo. Competitions, races, shows, seminars, workshops, conferences, lots of booths that sell pet food, toys, beds etc! Any pet owner will LOVE pet expo!
Plenty of discounts too! Especially at the last hour on the last day :D

Tip: bring a luggage to expo if you are planning to buy lots of stuff!

Diary 4

Luna fell off the table while sleeping at night, at least there was a stuff toy to 'cushion' her fall. Not the first time this happened to her though, she needs to be more aware of where she sleeps.

Started making a new batch of dehydrated treats for them :D
